"I absolutely loved the workshop today and Tia is my idol. She inspired me so much. She is the reason I decided to not give up and keep trying writing."
Zoe, Year 9
An author visit is inspirational and promotes a culture of reading for pleasure. I love talking to young people about the important themes in my books and my journey to becoming an author, but most of all, about their own reading and writing. In workshops I encourage them to relax and experiment: enjoy their writing and realise that 'success’ is mostly a refusal to admit defeat. Just keep drafting!

Verse Novel Workshop

A narrative verse workshop where students blend story and poetry, unleashing their unique voices.
With inspiration from my work, they will learn new techniques to help them express themselves in fresh and imaginative ways.
As an antidote to the restrictions of the curriculum, students 'free-write' about a topic – no restrictions, no corrections, no expectations! – and craft their ideas into creative formatted verse.
Great for both ends of the ability spectrum.

Build a Story Workshop

This workshop focuses on the structure of story, concentrating on the telling of stories we have created rather than on writing.
(Good for students who are reluctant writers or have literacy challenges).

"I've never been the sort of person to read but you really inspired me and I now read Crossing the Line before I sleep and it reminds me of how to not take the wrong path in life and to take the good way. When you gave away the signed book I was crossing my fingers so tight would get it! Many thanks for providing the world with the best book I have ever read."
Morgan, Year Nine, Northampton.
Thanks once again for your amazing feedback for the students which, no word of exaggeration, has the power to change young lives. When you came in and delivered the writing workshop last October, Zoe sent me this feedback, "I absolutely loved the workshop today and Tia is my idol. She inspired me so much. She is the reason I decided to not give up and keep trying writing." Thank goodness you visited and thank goodness she didn't give up!
Sarah Bruce, Hockerill Anglo-European College
"Tia visited Bromley Libraries and ran a wonderful workshop with a group of teenage students from different schools in the borough. The session was very inspiring as it involved exploring our feelings to write poems. Tia shared her experience and professional skills to engage all participants. We all had a marvellous time and really enjoyed and learnt a lot from her visit."
Jenny Hawke, Children's Librarian, Bromley Libraries
"Brilliant visit and writing workshop from Tia in the library today, students learning about verse novels, county lines, writing freely and the importance of finding your own path. Thank you so so much Tia!"
Alice Leggatt, Library Manager, Oaks Park High School
"You hit our brief exactly with your talks, which was to appeal to reader and non readers alike. Year 9 is a tricky year group and you had the students captivated."
Jackie Rice, LRC Manager, JCoss, New Barnet
"Hosting Tia has been one of the highlights of our year! She tackled difficult topics with sensitivity and humour, and commanded the room with a wonderful stage presence that kept our boys engaged. I could not recommend enough!"
Eileen Armstrong, Librarian, St Cuthbert's, Newcastle
"It was fantastic to be able to give our Most Able students the opportunity to work with Tia on developing and improving their creative writing skills. The workshops were fun, inspiring and challenging and the students had a productive and enjoyable time."
Emma Dixon, Most Able Lead, Claremont High School, Brent
"Tia's online talk on Crossing The Line was excellent - our students were fully engaged and the challenging subject matter was handled sensitively, honestly and with passion. Lots of students wanted to read the book after the event. Tia was organised and responsive when arranging the session and extremely easy to work with. Thank you so much Tia for everything; please come back soon!"
Jill Fenton, Librarian, Chey School
"I found the whole morning to be really engrossing; in particular I enjoyed learning more details about why Tia Fisher wrote the book. I read her original Author’s Note at the back of Crossing the Line last year, and it was fascinating to hear her expand upon this. The author herself was an extremely engaging and charismatic speaker, which is unsurprising, given that every stanza of this amazing verse novel was perfectly judged. It was a worthy Shadowers’ Choice. The workshop itself was very educational, and I found her advice on how to write fiction to be both insightful and inspirational."
Year 9 student review, Chew Valley School, Bristol
“I especially enjoyed it when she talked about all her different jobs and how she didn't really know what she wanted to do. I always thought verse novels sounded really strange and weird so I never really thought about reading one but after seeing Tia Fisher I really want to read Crossing the Line. I thought it was so sad and shocking that it was based on a real story about county lines.”
Daisy, Year 9
“I loved the structure of how Tia Fisher did her session with us. First, she explained who she was, then she read some of the book, then she explained what inspired her to write this book (a boy named Mattie who was pressured to sell drugs) and how it was based on a real-life story. I was excited for the talk, then I saw the book and I really don’t like reading, so I wasn’t very excited anymore. Then she started reading and I was very intrigued and really wanted to read the rest of the book, and I also loved the fact that it was in verse novel. I really recommend getting Tia Fisher to come to your school!”
Lola, Year 8

PRICES AND BOOKING
I charge £200 per session, but unless you are under one hour travel time from my home in Norwich, there is usually a minimum charge of £300, with travel and accommodation expenses on top. However, I may be able to charge less, depending on the number of sessions booked and the travel involved... or have to charge more, if the travel time is significant. Can you get together with other schools nearby? I can also offer virtual visits at £100 per one-hour session: a great idea if you’re too far away or budgets are tight.
